So let me set the scene. You're playing a game and something happens. Maybe you beat a really hard boss, maybe the story twists in a way you never saw coming, or maybe it's something smaller, perhaps you just saw something incredibly pretty or you just felt some powerful emotion.

Years later you're stuck playing shitty games you don't like and you go back to that game, you get to that moment and... it's just not the same. It's a good feeling, no doubt, but you feel like something's changed this time.

tl;dr: Moments in video games you wish you could experience for the first time all over again.


I can think of 3 off the top of my head that show y'all the different ways I mean. All from the same series.

#1 Story twist wise I always wish I could get that same kick to the heart I did first time I finished FFX. TIDUS NOOOOOO!

#2 Gameplay wise, the first time I beat Omega Mark XII in FFXII. Had to create my own strategy because the one in the guide wasn't helping and it worked. Fuck yeah. B|

#3 A smaller thing was in FFIX, after beating Black Waltz 1 (whom I had been stuck against for like, 6 months of not playing it after a tantrum) and emerging into the light outside of the Ice Cavern (which I hated because of those fucking monsters that talked and killed Garnet every fucking time). Seriously, as the world spread out before me and me knowing the fact that I wasn't even any way through disc 1 yet gave me such a kick of awe and excitement.

Fuck... my childhood... Y U RUIN THIS SHIT SQUARE. Y U DOING THIS. Y U MAKE ME RESORT TO THIS FUCKING STUPID MEME.

Well, not much of a gamer myself, as you all know, but I did have a few 'Holy shit this is awesome!' moments.

T'was the morning after my younger brother's birthday and he had gotten Paper Mario for the N64. I was maybe ten or so. No one was awake, so I thought I'd sneak the first play through. I remember playing as Mario, talking to the Toads, the Nomadimouses and Koopas at the palace. Usual party antics. Hey! It's Peach, our long time friend! How ya be- holy shit the ground is moving whatthefuckareweinspace!? I remember that fifteen second cutscene when the castle was hoisted on Bowser's castle when it flew into space. I shat myself. 'Nuff said, really.

Who hasn't played Ocarina of Time? Pretty much no one, amirite?

(Spoilers for Kupos who may have not beaten the game.)

Remember when you beat Ganondorf and he spit up green blood? Blood! On an Nintendo! Shit was getting real. Then after the whole fortress collapsed you thought Gandondorf's reign was at an end. Great game, yeah? Boom! What was that noise? Bam! Ganondorf hasn't been done in yet! With a vengeance he transforms into the notorious Ganon. As he swings his sword-thingies your blade is knocked away and you're forced to be resourceful. He lets out a menacing roar as a barrier of fire erects around you. It's cloudy and dark, lightning occasionally flashing around you. Then the music kicks in. The drums lightly beating at a rapid pace, the eerie moaning, all overshadowed by Ganon's shrieks as he attacks. Over all, the atmosphere made it feel, for lack of a better term, epic. The icing on the cake of course was when you regained the Master Sword and Zelda blasted Ganon with the light and you administer the coup de grace, stabbing him RIGHT IN HIS SNOUT HOLYSHITVIOLENCETOTHEMAX!!11!!1!

Anyway, that's my mini rant. I'm probably forgetting something, but whatever.

Also, yay, a thread that's not RP-related. : D

Story-wise... well, one of my earlier games, and I think first JRPG, Tales of Symphonia. TWISTS, TURNS, OH ME, OH MY. Same thing with Abyss, really. HOLY SHIT, LUKE YOU JUST GOT AWESOME. Hard to say much into detail without giving out some spoilers, but... oh good lord, dem games. (I think we can see the Tales series is to me as FF is to Moogle here)

Another couple story moments, though not quite as enchanting and thrilling to me in those games, would be Persona 4, going end game baby. And, actually, the Phoenix Wright series quite enticed me the whole way through, kinda different, but still an honorable mention, I suppose? B|

I can't quite say anything when it comes to gameplay, I guess. At least, nothing I explicitly remember, although I did have my fair share of rage-quite, pick up much later on, HOLY SHIT I FUCKING DID IT, I AM THE CHAMPION.

I know there are other plot twists that were just astonishing, and gameplay moments of, "FINALLY, YES, I FINALLY DID IT". Sadly I can't remember any off of the top of my head, besides that, if I can't recall, must not have been oh so great to me as those mentioned anyways XD

Story: It's too obvious not to point out. Aeris from FFVII. Why...why did I give her my best equipment!? But yeah, it was the first game I ever played with a...you know...plot...

Gameplay: And yes, I am also a fan of the FF series. The first time I took on that spider robot, I actually got tensed up thinking I wouldn't be able to outrun it. Now...I know how to kill it and grind for AP on it...

Also, the first time I caught them all in pokemon. It was so satisfying...for like a week. Now, with gamesharks and action replays, even though it would still take a few hours to get done, there's nothing quite like completing a goal you've been working on for weeks...only to realize it was all pointless in the end.
