Prologue: The Hub
---
Chops' Journal
The recruitment campaign was somewhat successful. While we haven't assembled a battalion of hardened soldiers, we have acquired a handful of mercenaries each with some rather extraordinary prowess and that just might be enough.
One of such extraordinary and curious talents is a young man who is addressed as "Blade". And what are these curious talents? It is what seems to be pyromancy, though not with wands and staffs as with most mages but from a gift received at birth that allows him to emit flame from himself and the ability of flight. An ability that somewhat makes me envious as my machine state inhibits the tuition of mage-like crafts. Supporting this faculty for combustion and flight is an adeptness with swords, a sufficient skill to fall back on should the fight get close and personal though nothing can compare with my gentleman art of bare-knuckle pugilism. Born with a fiery vigor that has been amplified by an exclusive academic education, I have no qualms that Blade shall prove a valuable ally in terms of capability. He also seems a cool-headed type, quite an amusing juxtaposition to his more heated gift if you ask me. I prosper in the thought that Blade's calm and collected mentality will prevent distractions from his past events interfering with this very high-priority objective. Some people would feel uncomfortable with an individual who saw his entire planet and people massacred and enslaved, I did not feel this when personally encountering Blade. I hope this isn't an optimistic delusion I have harbored and he is indeed a ticking time-bomb due to embark on a psychopathic slaughter. Perhaps I can arrange a by-trip to his home so that he may personally put these potential demons to rest.
Now here is a man of renown, Luke von Dash. The Cardinal Arbalester and savior of the planet Drakengard himself. Once traveled with the merchant before he died. Created artificially as a living weapon bespoke for war and over a century of battle experience makes Luke a powerful asset to our effort. I myself am intrigued of his special abilities that allow his reputation to precede him so and it is a well-received opportunity of mine that I get to fight along side him and see first hand Luke's legendary capabilities that I have only heard about. He is reputed as a very kind individual who helps those in need along with a strong sense of morality, this is evidenced by his readiness to joining our cause and will no doubt keep him loyal. But I am not unfamiliar with goody-two-shoes types often being an inconvenience, and an annoyance, in more ruthless circumstances. It is likely that our first interceptions with the Martyrians are to evacuate a planet rather than stop them, this could leave Luke in a moral dilemma that may shake his loyalty and concentration. In this case, he will simply have to understand, especially with our current resources, that it is not possible to keep a perfect score and that we must save as many lives as we can.
Traveling with Luke is Netreya, the king of the cardinal griffins. Netreya is the pact partner of Luke and together saved Drakengard. Netreya and Luke fight as an effective pair and can give us an aerial advantage over our enemies. I've dealt with royals before, here's hoping the griffin's pride doesn't hinder our efforts as we are all, those of noble and common heritage, are in this together. I foresee Roo taking a great zeal in researching Netreya as the little scientist hasn't worked with a griffin specimen before, here's also hoping that Roo isn't too perverse.
James Taylor, assassin. Doesn't say much. One I better keep an eye on. Will likely be our stealth specialist. I have not experienced much to do with his temperament other than he is very greedy and will unquestioningly obey whoever fills his wallet the most. Easy enough for Lord Jeremy to keep him under thumb. I will cherish every moment our enemies are unaware of his coin-lust and/or have insufficient funds as his abilities seem formidable, that says a lot coming from me, and it is advisable we all watch our backs around this enigmatic entity.
Another man with not much to say, let alone anything to say about him. Xalem Vilenius. Has the power to control photons, a power with a lot of possibilities. I should refer Herr Vilenius to Roo for ways on applying this most intriguing talent. A dark character, yet I speculate battles along side Herr Vilenius will be quite a light show. He also carries a sword, but it is apparent he has little confidence wielding it, perhaps I can show the young man a thing or two.
A very young man by Kyle Von Brooks. Only fifteen years old. Some would say having someone this young fight in a battle with the potential for death as this is tantamount to letting the enemy kill him. But we need every able body in this fight and I am thankful to all who step up no matter how young. We are all in this together. Seems a very well-mannered man and rather experienced for someone his age, though his sheer blood-lust unsettles me; this could be the result of living though a war for half a decade.
Another young recruit that has joined us, only sixteen. Here's the story. I was wrapping up the recruitment and some Khajiit girl appears at the last minute. A strange little furball of secrets who goes by 'Phiounuse'. Now, from what I have checked, the Khajiits of Nirn don't have access to fully automatic rifles. So, she's been places. How she got to those places, let alone came to the Hub is unknown to me. She wanted to join, and I obliged. Though I am uneasy with allies that keep secrets, hard to trust. Perhaps by working together I can persuade her to allow me to be privy to her knowledge that she keeps so hush-hush.
---
The assembled recruits waited in a lit-up warehouse among giant metal crates. The walls, floor and ceiling were all out of grey steel and there were no windows. The warehouse was seemingly infinite in size, the only doors, which were the only exit out of this warehouse, were at the vanishing point of one's eyes. It was a cool temperature where each of the recruits' breath could be seen as a steam-cloud and no smell was in the air. With this building set-up, even the tiniest sound made an imposing echo that rang through the whole environment from the recruits' footsteps to the slam of the steel double-doors opening. From them twinkled the grand majesty of a robot's chrome friendly mutton chops. The robot waved and called out,
"We're ready for you now! Los!"
